The necessity of Government Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The necessity of Government - Article Example This paper helps to provide an insight regarding renowned mine disasters that took place in the United states of America and how the presence of the government has been necessary in order to counter these disasters and keep the people together in a calm and dignified manner so that they are able to cope up with the effects of these mine disasters. The Centralia Mine disaster took place on the 25th of March in the year 1947, in the Centralia coal mine in Illinois. According to reports, the disaster killed around eleven people and was caused because the coal dust was ignited by a shot blown out of proportion, causing havoc and upheaval. During the time that the shot took place, around 65 workers within the mine itself were injured severely and died. (Drogin, Bob, and Nicole Santa Cruz) The Sago mine disaster on the other hand took place in the year 2000 in Sago, West Virginia and has been recorded as one of the worst mine disasters that the United States of America has been hit by or h as faced. According to this blast, around thirteen people had been trapped alive within the mine out of which twelve of them had been able to survive and make it out alive. The blast received a great amount of media coverage and press coverage by various news channels and newspapers. (Feds Blame Mine Operator for Fatal Collapse) In Utah, the Crandall Canyon Mine has been known for a long time for its supply of bituminous coal and in the year 2007, this mine suffered a collapse because of which six miners had been trapped within its confines. Even the rescue workers who were trying to uncover and find the trapped miners were found dead. The miners were never found and thus had been declared dead by the government within a matter of a month. (Roston, Aram) All these incidents taking place mean that there needs to be a certain existence of law and order with respect to taking proper care and caution of the resources that exist within the environment around society, and such action need s to be carried out by the government. Different mine disasters taking place during different points in history simply calls for the government not being responsible enough to take care of and call for action regarding doing something or taking certain precautionary measures for both the miners and rescue workers as well as the people living in nearby towns and villages. The main similarities between all the mine disasters that have been talked about above are the number of people that were killed as well as the fact that nothing was done in order to make the situation better for the people. The government is a very necessary element required within society especially during such times of need when the resources of the country are being utilized in a manner not befitting society. In this case, the mines are a part of the country and need to be handled with care on part of the government. The biggest question is why proper care was not taken in the later years after having experience d deadly mine disasters in the 90s already. It is important for a country to have a government that is able to carry out action in a manner befitting the people. The g

Lysergic Acid Diethlamide (lsd) :: essays research papers
Lysergic Acid Diethlamide (LSD) Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã LSD or lysergic acid diethlamide is a commonly used drug of teens. LSD is a hallucinogenic drug which effects the nervous system. The drug is ingested in many different ways, absorbed through the skin, taken orally or absorbed through the eye or ear. This drug was originally developed by the government of the United States as a treatment for psychological conditions such as alcoholism and drug addiction. In Canada, where experimentation is not heavily restricted, LSD has been used to reduce the suffering of terminally ill cancer patients. The drug was tested for the effects it would have on autistic children. This drug induces a physiological response that is consistent with that of a central nervous system stimulant. Little is known about the effects of LSD, but what is known shows that it is harmful to the nervous system. Physically, there is an increase in heart rate, an increase in blood pressure, dilation of the pupils, and some facilitation of the spinal reflexes. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Once ingested, LSD takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes to fully onset and the effects last anywhere from six hours to four days, depending on the dosage. If taken in large enough amounts, one can die of an overdose of LSD. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Psychologically, LSD has a tremendous effect on a person. LSD is an unpredictable drug in which the effects are different each time it is ingested. A person under the influence of LSD ifs flooded with visual experience, as much when the eyes are closed as when open. Light is greatly intensified; colors are vivid and seem to glow; images are numerous and persistent, yielding a wide range of illusions and hallucinations; details are sharp; perception of spaced is enhanced; music may evoke visual expressions, and light may give the impressions of sound. Quite often, mood swings occur with unpredictable actions of the person under the influence of the drug. A feeling of awareness of one's self is greatly enhanced. The lapse of time may slow down or time may pass

Gender and subject choice Essay
To carry out these interviews, I would take a sample of 20 sixth-formers, preferably within my own sixth-form to allow easier, speedier access and consisting equally of both males and females. In order to do this I would use quota sampling, this is a way in which variables can be controlled and the participants with similar characteristics are chosen, hence the overall sample can reflect the characteristics of the population as a whole. These samples would also preferably include students that had chosen to study any of the sciences, however particularly focusing on Biology. This sample would also take into account ethnic and class differences in order to allow me to differentiate between males and females according to different variables, providing sufficient extra data to measure gender against class roles and the intersections. Whilst this will provide qualitative clues as to subject choices by gender it will be limited in illustrating the impact of the learning environment and gender roles, as this would demand more ââ¬Ëqualitative analysisââ¬â¢ such as that of Anne Colleysââ¬â¢. However, I would expect the results to be generalisable to a wider population. I will anchor these questions in previous research such as that of Anne Colley. Within the interviews, I am going to focus on Biology in particular when asking about the science/favourite subjects, etc. My reasons for doing this arise from the evidence that Science at GCSE level is more popular with males whereas at A-level it is more commonly chosen by females. I would begin the interviews with a number of open-ended questions, so as to give the participant a chance to provide me with worthy feedback, eg. ââ¬Å"Why did you choose Biology? ââ¬Å", and ââ¬Å"What did you think of it ?(in comparison to GCSE level), etc. I would record the answers to these open questions as it would be time-consuming to write down many long answers, etc. This would enable me to extract a varied viewpoint on many different students perspectives of subject choice and preference. Then I would ask a series of closed-ended questions which will generally be more appropriate to achieve a table of results for clear comparisons to be made. These closed-ended questions would include similar questions to: ââ¬Å"Do you think Biology is a girls subject?â⬠and ââ¬Å"Do you think Physics is a boys subject? ââ¬Å", etc. Questions would be piloted on a small group of males and females to ensure its adequacy. This is in fact a small-scale preliminary study which will allow me to check that things will run smoothly during the interviews and also allow improvements to be made to the design of the research, should there be any faults. (471 words) Potential Problems As this is a such a small piece of research, it would a problem to generalise from it, especially to schools and pupils different from the sample, eg.ethnic minorities, private education, etc. It would give an idea of the reasons in which a particular small group of students chose their ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ level subjects and their own individual reasons for doing so. However it could give a fair impression of reasons for subject choice in other cases, eg. similar circumstances to other pupils studying the same subjects etc. The usage of quota sampling does have both theoretical and practical drawbacks in some circumstances. It isnââ¬â¢t truly random as each person within the population doesnââ¬â¢t have an equal chance of being chosen. The lack of this genuine randomness may have a significant effect on the results. For example, the quota sample within my study would be only those illustrated on the biology class register, however the results may have more of an impact if a quota sample had been taken from all those who achieved a high grade at GCSE biology and were in fact considering going on to study it at a higher level, etc. There is of course, with my research an interviewer bias. As my opinions on the topic are set by doing the research, participants may be influenced by my asking of the questions and will therefore respond by giving a respectable answer as they may find the real truth embarrassing, eg. ââ¬Å"I fancied a lad who was taking the courseâ⬠. However I am similar in status to my chosen sample group, therefore they may wish to impress or please me by giving me answers that they think I ââ¬Ëwantââ¬â¢ to hear. Another problem may be the reliability of the interviewees memory, they arenââ¬â¢t currently making their choice and might not remember their thoughts on it at the time. Also during interviews, a crucial factor as a way of achieving a reliable outcome of the research is to not put ideas into the students head before having asked open-ended questions. For example, closed-ended questions especially may put forward ideas that werenââ¬â¢t there before and therefore mislead me about ââ¬Ëtheirââ¬â¢ thoughts on the matter, etc.

Effects of the Yom Kippur War on Arab Israeli Relation
Describe the Effects of the Yom Kippur War on Arab Israeli relations. (12 marks) The Yom Kippur War happened in October 1973, which involved the Arabs and the Israelis, as well as two superpowers, the USA and the USSR. At the end of the war, the Israelis had won. However, the Israeli government and people were shocked by how the Arabs did. The Yom Kippur War has led to a number of effects on the Arab-Israeli relations, which can be classified as two aspects, short term and long term. There are some immediate consequences caused by the Yom Kippur War. The Arabs used oil as a political weapon, which led to a huge economic problem and oil shortage in the world. On 17 October 1973, the price of oil was cut by 70 per cent by the OAPEC, a mostly Arab group. At the same time it cut production by 35 per cent and banned all sale of its products to the US and the Netherlands. Because of this oil incident, plenty of people lost their jobs and the prices raised sharply. Therefore, many countriesââ¬â¢ economies collapsed, which took years to recover. The other short term effect was that the war resulted in even more refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, particularly in Lebanon. People were then realized that they could no longer rely on the government but to gain hope from the Palestinian organizations, especially the PLO: they need to fight for peace their own way. This indicates a greater unsteadiness and also a rising support for the PLO. The attacks on Israel and the Israeli peace with Egypt led to many invasions: the PLO attacks on Israel from refugeesââ¬â¢ camp in Lebanon, as well as the Israel peace with Egypt caused the Israeli invasions of Lebanon in 1978 and 1982. The Camp David Accords isolated Egypt from the rest of Arab world. After the war, Egypt signed two agreements with the Israeli president with the help of the American Secretary. Many Arab countries were very sad and disappointed. Egyptian relations with rest of the Arab world declined. As a result, Sadat was assassinated by extremists. Seeing how Sadat was killed by making peace with Israel, other Arab leaders didnââ¬â¢t have the courage to do what Sadat has done, to make peace. Consequently, the Arab world was lacking a clear leader. Syria attempted to take this position, but didnââ¬â¢t success. Also, after the war, Egypt moved towards USA away from USSR, which means Egypt was no longer close to USSR. Instead, they improved the relationship with USA as the USSR did not support them much during the war. Trust was lost between USSR and Egypt. The long term effects brought by the war can be divided into a few points. The world opinion changed after the Yom Kippur War. Militarily, the Israelis won. They had shown their weapons, their training and their strategies were the better ones. But politically, it was a victory for the Arabs. They had completely surprised the Israelis and the rest of the world in the war. They now let the world know that Arab soldiers could fight with courage. Because of the war, Egyptians became more confident in themselves. They thought that Israel had only been saved by the United States. The thought that Israel is so strong that might not be defeated had been destroyed. After the war, the world was not on the side of Israel anymore. In contrast, there was much more sympathy for the Arab position. Above all, they had done everything together, especially in the use of the oil weapon. As a result, the rest of the world showed much more respect for the Arabs. This is the first war in which the Israel suffered serious losses. There were a great Human loss and a feeling of uncertainty among Israelis. An estimated 3,000 Israeli and 8,500 Egyptian and Syrian soldiers were killed, and 8,000 Israelis and almost 20,000 Syrians wounded. It was the first Arab-Israeli war in which Israel suffered a high casualty rate. These effects led to the emergence of an Israeli peace movement. This and the later experience of the wars in Lebanon led to the growth of ââ¬ËIsraeli peace movementââ¬â¢ in Israel. To conclude, the Yom Kippur War has a negative impact on the Arab-Israeli relations. The PLO and other Palestinian terrorists groups, the oil crisis and the other incidents happened in the Yom Kippur War have worsened the relationship between the two states.

Good Student Sand Salt Lab Report Essay Example
Good Student Sand Salt Lab Report Essay Example Good Student Sand Salt Lab Report Paper Good Student Sand Salt Lab Report Paper Some of the salt may be lost if the salt doesnt dissolve completely or if some of the salt water is spilled this can be avoided by making sure that all of the salt has dissolved, and by being very careful while stirring the mixture not to spill it. Procedure: 1. Place a small beaker on the balance. Press the rezone button to make sure to take the mass of only the sand and salt sample and not the beaker. 2. Carefully pour the sand and salt mixture onto the beaker. Record the mass in your data table. 3. Measure out ml of water using the graduated cylinder. Add the water o the beaker and gently stir the sample with a stirring rod for several minutes. Be careful not to spill. 4. Obtain a piece of filter paper write your names near the top, on BOTH sides. Use the balance to mass the filter paper and record this mass in the data table. 5. Obtain a clean, dry flask and use the balance to determine its mass as well. Record the mass of the flask in the data table. 6. Prepare a filtering set-up as directed by your instructor. Slowly and carefully filter the mixture. First pour out as much water as possible, and then use a rubber policeman to scoop out the remaining sand. : During filtration a mixture is poured through a funnel fitted with filter paper. Filter paper has tiny holes allowing only liquid to pass through and solid particles to stay on the paper. Evaporation is effective in separating particles in solutions. The solution is heated so that the solvent will evaporate, and the solid substance is left behind. Conclusion: The objective of the experiment was to separate a mixture of sand and salt. Through using given materials, and following the procedure, the objective was met. The mixture can be separated into sand and salt through filtration and evaporation. The sand can be separated from the mixture through filtration. In order to filter the sand from the mixture, salt must first be dissolved in water. The mixture of salt water and sand can be then filtered through a funnel fitted with filter paper. Filter paper only allows liquids though, allowing for the sand to stay inside it. The salt can be separated from water through evaporation. During evaporation the solvent evaporates, leaving solid particles behind. The overall results from the experiment are that the 1059 grams of the heterogeneous mixture consisted of 8. 1 grams of sand, and 2. 8 grams of salt. The sand makes up 80. 4% of the mixture, while salt makes up 20. 6% of the mixture. What might have affected the results were errors. During the filtration process, not all grains of sand were collected. Also during the evaporation process, due to intensive heat salt started popping out of the flask. Even though matter was lost, the final mass of sand and salt is 0. 1 grams heavier, than the original mass. This is also the reason why the percentages of salt and sand do not add up to 100%. The additional mass comes from an error in the separation recesses. The water that was used to separate salt and sand could remain in the samples either from inadequate time period for the sand to dry, or evaporating. This could have been prevented through providing a longer amount of time for the sand to dry, as well as for the boiling of the solution. It would also be helpful to place the separated particles in hot oven for a period of time, to ensure that both samples are completely dry. In conclusion it is possible to separate various substances from one another through different techniques without changing the chemical makeup of the substance.

The 26 Surprising Rules Of Great Content Creation
The 26 Surprising Rules Of Great Content Creation Great content creation is a lifestyle. You live and breath it; almost everything that happens to you makes you think this could be a blog post. Here are the rules. You probably already know them, because youre living them now. The Rules Of Great Content Creation 1. Live what you write. Believe in what youre writing, or it will show. You can talk it if you walk it. Otherwise, youre guessing out loud and your audience can tell. If you find yourself writing what you dont believe anymore, change what youre doing, rethink your beliefsââ¬âdo something. Try to get the two as parallel as you can or youll start to feel resentment and have a hard time living with yourself. 2. Your critics and fans are the same. Be ready for both criticism and adoration from the same people, over the same content, and in the same day. Take one as well as the other. They go together like light and shadow. 3. Always be reading.à Read not just blogs and books that are related to marketing or blogging or your niche. Read outside your usual realm. Read fiction and non-fiction. Read history and philosophy. All things can apply to the content you are creating in some way some day. You wont regret your knowledge stockpile. Ever. 4. Dont write too much. Write every day. Write extra, because youll be editing and cutting. Write as the habit it should be. But dont write so much that youre burned out. When you feel burned out on writing, pick up a fiction book and read. Reset your mind in a different path. 5. Write with daring. The post I wrote last week was different. I sat down to write and thought in exasperation I cannot write yet another typical blog post. Not today. So I wrote something else. It might not appeal to readers. It might not be the top-post. It might garner laughs. I might wish later Id not written it. But I needed to write something that was different even if only so I could write fresh the next day. 6. Write so your readers enjoy it. You have a chance to brighten someones day, give them the change in direction they were hoping for, or change an attitude. Your goal isnt to write a great blog. Its to write a great day for your readers. Your goal isnt to impress someone else. Its to write so the person who reads it is glad that he or she did. 7. Think of yourself as a writer, not a content creator. One changes the world, the other packages up a product. There will be days when feeling comparable to a factory wont inspire you much at all. On those days, think of yourself as a writer. You have a great history of noble and great writers to be inspired by; less so with content creators. Think of yourself as a writer, not a content creator. Its a different mindset.8. Think of yourself as a content creator, and not a writer. Some days you have to ship, whether you have a grand philosophy to share that day or not. If need be, compartmentalize your creative self. Understand you have a job to do, that it might not feel noble right now, but youre gonna do it the best you can, and that it doesnt define who you are later. 9. Stretch yourself. Stretch how you write, the topics you write about, and be sure to stand up periodically and actually, physically stretch yourself at your desk so you dont fall asleep. Get the blood moving to your head. 10. Wander away from the pack. Try something that everyone else doesnt swear by. Ignore that great advice. They say short, you say long. They say now, you say tomorrow. It might not work, they might have been right, but at least you strengthened your writing backbone a bit and tested out your own feet. And, who knows. You might end up finding something new that becomes the next must-have advice. 11. Network, and be friendly. No one hugs a porcupine. Be friendly online. You dont have to be fake. If youre not feeling friendly when you read that blog post comment, come back when you do, and not a moment before. This is how you connect with people. 12. Promote your work before yourself. Its not about you, its about what youre writing and what people want. Remember this: unless youre a famous celebrity and people have oddly fixated on you, people really only care about themselves and what you can do for them. They care less about that new puppy you blogged about and more about the 5 Ways They Can Save $100 Each Week. Dont be a self-promoter. Be a work-promoter. People are interested in themselves. Let your work feed that. Promote your work before yourself. People want you for what you can do for13. Blame no one. You wrote a blog post that bombed, started a flame war, was grossly inaccurate, was hilariously bad, caused people to unsubscribe from your email list, or was pistol-whipped by search engines? Your fault. You wrote it. Not a big deal. Move on and keep writing. 14. Inquire after your readers. Ask questions, in your blog posts, in your comments, on social media. Actually ask with the desire to hear. This is not you throwing out a fishhook to snare the next sucker for your online webinar. This is you asking another person and letting them share their opinion. You will learn something. 15. See words in a new light. Words are not just a means to an end. They are capturing the electric thoughts in your brain so others can understand them. They are powerful and not merely governed by rules, not merely a rigid part of a formula. Expand your vocabulary. Experiment with the sound of the words as you read them in your head, the juxtaposition of words, the hidden meanings and puns that you can create based on how you use words. Dump your cliches and stand-by phrases. 16. Understand your blog is dangerous. Oh, is it ever. Its the printing press and the pen that defeated the sword and the freely spoken word, all rolled up into one and then some. Your blog can be powerful. Will you use it to harm, to help, or to simper and whine? Your blog can be powerful. Do you use it to harm, help, or complain?à #ContentMarketingRules17. You are the oven. As a blogger, you take all the raw materialsââ¬âthe studies, the blog posts, the articles, the books, the infographicsââ¬âand you interpret them for your reader. You do the hard stuff so they can have ten or fifteen minutes of enjoyment reading. Dont be annoyed that this is what you will do. Be sure you know how to distill your knowledge down for this purpose. 18. Expect completely unpredictable returns. You will not understand why your least favorite or most ridiculous posts get the most traffic. You shouldnt chase after it. People will read what they will read. Dont restructure your blog around a topic purely based on numbers. One-hit wonders are found on every blog. They throw off the curve and thats how it is. 19. Tip your hat to search engines, then turn your back. Ultimately, you are not feeding a search engine. You are not here for a robot. You are here for human readers and you should never, ever let anything trump human readability and enjoyment no matter how much racket the robot makes. 20. Its all about who you know. You can work 10 years or 10 days and have the same success. It depends on who you know and who they know and if theyll share and tell. That may be discouraging. Whatever it is, it isnt a blank check for shoddy work. You do your best work over the days and the years. 21. One-time hits are great, but not that great. A one time hit is like a punch. It happens, it dissipates, you might have some collateral effects for a while, but you quickly settle back to the status quo. Your content shouldnt be created out of an infatuation with hit counts. Thats chasing after the wind. Even if you catch it, so what? One-hit wonders on your blog will happen. They dont define your blog.à #ContentMarketingRules22. Accept your title. Are you a professional blogger? A part-time blogger? A hobby blogger? It doesnt matter what you are, so long as you know. Thatll help you understand what tools youll use, for one thing, and how much sleep youll lose over things like leads and conversions and affiliate income. Know what kind of blogger you are, and proceed to write without shame. Theres room for everyone. 23. Be authentic, but know if youre a jerk. The word now is authenticity and trust and thats the best way to write but do you know if your authentic self is even likable? do you care? Does your audience care? Be authentic enough, but temper it with a kindness and patience for your audience. Youre not a hypocrite if you do that, nor is your writing fake. 24. You are writing in permanent marker. What you write online is forever. Even if you robots.txt your site so the Internet Archive cant access it, the things you write online do not come with an eraser two or three years down the road. Be friends with your draft button and think before you hit publish. 25. Find your own growth percentage. Im not talking about traffic or conversions. Im talking about what percentage of content will you write according to the winning formulas of the day, and what percentage will you write simply to grow your knowledge and skills whether they are a traffic win or not? There might be overlap, but there might just be a few posts here and there that no one cares about that still changed your own life. 26. The best way to learn to be a blogger is to be a blogger. To learn, you have to start. To get better, you have start when youre at your worst youll ever be. You can read all of the how to be a blogger posts you want, but until you start you wont understand. To be a blogger, you must be a blogger.

Juvenile Detainees - Research Paper Example s responsibility to ensure that the young detainees are provided with special education and psychological restoration, in order to help them regain their well-being and prevent recidivism. Correctional officers come across many unique situations in their profession, where the detainees require special attention and consideration. Cases of substance abuse, sexual abuse, children suffering from mental disorders, those belonging to minority groups and children with disabilities often come under this purview. The role of a juvenile correctional officer is probably one of the most challenging ones, requiring a strong sense of solidarity as well as sensibility towards the juvenile detainees. The responsibilities of a correctional officer extend beyond mere provision of security and supervision. The future of a juvenile detainee often depends on the actions of his/her correctional officer. Such a role can only be fully surmised when the tasks, responsibilities and the tribulations faced by an officer, in relation to the detainees assigned to him, are fully understood. The neurobiological and psychological states of children and adolescents are very fragile, especially in the case of juvenile delinquents. Most juvenile offenders are found to have psychological disorders and mental ailments, which expose them and the correctional officers to dangerous and often life threatening situations. Young detainees are found to have a higher incidence of suicidal tendencies, substance abuse and crimina l inclinations that often place correctional officers in unique situations that need to be dealt with meticulous, clever as well as humanitarian approaches. On account of their violent history, juvenile delinquents take a long time to

The Experiment on the Coastal Engineering to Analyse the Wave Lab Report
The Experiment on the Coastal Engineering to Analyse the Wave Behaviour and Linear Theory - Lab Report Example The thickness is always twice the diameter of the concrete armor unit for the tetrapod layers Concrete. 20 The experiment on coastal engineering was carried out in the hydraulics laboratory for approximately two hours. This experiment consisted of two parts. Part one was linear wave theory and part two was breakwater design. The venue of the experiment was Sopwith building Waves are created when the wind blows on top of the sea and the bottom layer receives frictional drag from the surface of the sea which exerts frictional drag to the next wind layer above it. This process continues in all the wind layers. The coastal zone is very important to the community around it. For the community to survive, the engineers play a big role in protecting this zone against flooding, erosion, and destruction of property by the ocean waves and tides. The laboratory work is important in that to avoid all these natural disasters. The measurements lead to commendation on how the waves acted on the coast and how they were reflected on the vertical wall. The waves that are reflected on the vertical surface had no horizontal movement and are referred to as standing waves. A rubble mound breakwater was created to make the wave to move over its Smaller waves with period 1.0s, were created to come to the conclusion about how they affect the model structure. This observation ended when the rubble mound breakwater finally failed. The wave height of a surface wave is the difference between the elevations of a crest (the highest point of the wave) and a neighboring trough (the lowest point of the wave) as it is shown at the figure below. Enviromental issue Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Enviromental issue - Research Paper Example The severity of air pollution in China and the extent it creates serious health hazards are evident from alarm that its people are warned are warned to stay indoor in order save their breath from contaminated air. This piece of paper considers three articles that talk about air pollution and its effects on human environment and sums up major emphasizes from those articles. This paper is to analyze how media, based on these articles, played its role in spreading about this severe environmental issue and what solutions have been recommended by them to make people aware of its severity. Air Pollution: a superpower in to a ââ¬Ëworst-landââ¬â¢? (defining the issue) BBC in August 2006 reported, in an article titled ââ¬ËChina hit by raising air pollutionââ¬â¢ that China has become worldââ¬â¢s largest sulphur dioxide polluter, due to that it has emitted 26 million tons of the gas in 2005, showing a 27% increase from the figure of 2000. This excesses emissions of sulfur dioxide has been causing acid rains in different part of China and other parts of the world. As Kahn and Yardley noted in their article- ââ¬ËAs China Roars, Pollution Reaches Deadly Extremesââ¬â¢, published in New York Times (2007), Chinaââ¬â¢s air pollution itself is a cancer leading to a large number of deaths. Costs yield benefits. Its economically true and naturally very evident, especially from Chinaââ¬â¢s case. This fact has been highlighted in their article. China, being unparalleled in the history, emerged as a major industrial power, but created a legacy of environmental issue, air pollution that may negate all the credits its economic growth has conferred. The article has defined and described the issue in detail. Pubic health is extremely affected by air pollution as it alone causes hundreds of thousands deaths every year. One of the most critical and perhaps more dangerous effects of this pollution is that around 500 million people lack access to safe drinking water . Both cities and rural areas have been turned to be toxic areas where only around one percent of air is considered quite safe. In industrial cities, people more often are not able to see sun, not due to raining or sky being cloudy, but due to the pollution that made the air and sky dry. The atmosphere has largely been contaminated. On one side, the economy gains ever-recorded growth and large multinationals still attempting to grab the slice of this international marketing pie, whereas on the other side, people die for bad breath due to air pollution. As this article emphasized, Chinaââ¬â¢s pollution is not only Chinaââ¬â¢s problem. It is adverse effects have widened to other countries. Dangerous chemical elements like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides that are spewed from Chinaââ¬â¢s coal plants caused acid rains in Seoul, South Korea, Tokyo etc. Tatchell in 2008 wrote in their article titled ââ¬ËThe Pollution Marathonââ¬â¢, published in the Guardian, about the iss ue of Chinaââ¬â¢s air pollution and its drastic impacts on every oneââ¬â¢s life in the Guardian newspaper. This article starts with Ethiopian long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassieââ¬â¢s decision not to participate in 2008 Olympics held in China. He was highly concerned about the extremely hazardous air pollution in China and its impacts on his health if he stays few days

Robinsons and Sons Ltd particularly in the Sales Office (Jackie) scenario, the Bought Ledger (Karen) department and The Transport (Melvin) department can be attributed to overriding of the functions of the First Line Managers (FLM) by John Jones who is the Customer Services and Administrative Manager. In order to gain a clear understanding of the concept of FLM, it is imperative to begin by outlining some of the basic functions of First Line management. Basically, first line managers are directly responsible for the production of goods and services. The employees who directly report to them do the organizationââ¬â¢s basic production work (Jackson et al 2001). For instance, a sales manager like Jackie should be responsible for supervising the people who sell different chemical things in the organization. It can be noted that this level of management is the link between the operations of each departm ent and the rest of the organization. Ã

Recycled Concrete Aggregate and Implementation Problem
Recycled Concrete Aggregate and Implementation Problem Aggregate is one of the most vitally important materials in use for production as it profoundly influences concrete properties and performances. In terms of volume, aggregate is now one of the most widely used materials in the construction industry and, consequently, its treatment at the point of demolition is attracting mush interest. This is to represent total aggregate production, including usage in concrete and road base. Aggregate usage in concrete constitutes perhaps between 25 and 35 per cent of the total aggregate production. The sheer bulk of global aggregate usage is staggering. The above inevitably impacts on the environment due to the great huge quantity of general and construction waste materials or from building demolition site generated in developed countries. The disposal of all this waste has become a harsh social and environmental problem. This is a large burden on the worldà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s natural resources and an increasingly expensive problem for solid waste management. Therefore, a possible alternative aggregate method to overcome this issue may be using recycled concrete aggregate instead of natural aggregate in construction task. The solution not only helps preserve and expand the natural resources, but also can reduce waste disposal costs as well as the removal of waste at landfills requirements. In this project, the order most important issue is to determine the best solution to make the recycled concrete aggregate economical for most infrastructure tasks especially in structural concrete. The degree of potential recycling of construction waste will show how the changes to become a new source or production, and find out whether it applies to, or less in Malaysia. Therefore, it can become a reference of implementation to the developers and contractors or increase recycling percentage of construction waste of their construction project. RESEARCH GOAL 1.2.1 TITLE The use of recycled concrete aggregate and implementation problem recycle in Malaysia. 1.2.2 AIM The research is to study how the recycled concrete aggregate be produced and its application. Besides that, the research also to examine the implementation problem for recycling concrete or aggregate in Malaysia construction industry. 1.2.3 OBJECTIVE 1) To define the method of recycling aggregate for use in concrete 2) To find out the application of recycled concrete aggregate 3) To determine the implementation problem of recycling concrete or aggregate in Malaysia. HYPOTHESIS Although the concrete or aggregate waste in Malaysia increasing, but Malaysia does not recycling concrete or aggregate rather than other country, such as Japan. RESEARCH QUESTION What are the factors affecting recycling concrete aggregate? How the implementation of recycling concrete aggregate in Malaysia compare with other country. BACKGROUND The recycled concrete aggregate can be defined as crushed concrete composed of aggregate fragments coated with cement paste or cement mortar from the demolition of the old structures or pavements that has been processed to produce aggregates suitable for use in new concrete. (Environmental Council of Concrete Organizations, 1999)The processing, as with many natural aggregates, generally involves crushing, grading and washing. This removes contaminant materials such as reinforcing steel, remnants of formwork, gypsum board, and other foreign materials. (G. D. Taylor, 1991) The application of Recycled Aggregate is mostly currently in low quality/strength concrete, for example, pavement base and slab rather than used in structural concrete. The most common application of Recycled Concrete Aggregate is the use in concrete sub-base in road construction, bank protection, noise barriers and embankments, many types of general bulk fills and fill materials for drainage structures. After the removal of contaminants through selective demolition, screening, and/or air separation and size reduction in a crusher to aggregate sizes, crushed concrete can be used as new concrete for pavements, shoulders, median barriers, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and bridge foundations; structural grade concrete; soil-cement pavement bases; moulded concrete bricks and blocks, such as bituminous concrete. (Environmental Council of Concrete Organizations, 1999) SCOPE OF STUDY This research will identify about the recycle collection method, technical and process of aggregate is being study. Besides that, is to study the application of recycled concrete aggregate in construction industry. Lastly is the factor which may affecting the recycling potential such as, economic benefit, environment consideration and carry out the recycle service of concrete aggregate also a path of scope of study. The data and information were collected through literature reviews, questionnaires, and case study, all of these are facts and no assumptions have been made. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY In this research paper, information and data will be collected by 3 major approaches, the primary data source which will be postal questionnaire and interview. Secondary data source is literature review. These research methods are being chosen other than the case study because it is more suitable to be used in the research and can be done in a larger scope. Literature study Reference Books and Article In this research, I will get the information from library resource and reference books. Literature review on the topic of this research can find out from Library College. I have also refers the senior dissertation as a references or guideline in order to get some scheme to complete my research. Electronic information For the electronic information, I will search the information from websites for example www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, emerald are used to find the relevant information regarding to my objective and summary for article. Questionnaires For the questionnaire is prepared in order to achieve the objectives. I would like to use postal questionnaires method, which can collect broader perception and data for research analysis and facilitate the outcome of this study. The questionnaires is designed to answers the objective that has been outlined. The questionnaire is distributed to selected construction firm company and experience personnel such as main contractor. In order to obtain a high accuracy of survey, 30 sets of questionnaire are sending out. The next step after the data collection would be data analysis. This method includes compiling all the data collected. The survey is carried out to further look deep into the implementation problem and its factor of recycling in Malaysia construction industry. Interview I would like to use interview as my survey. I selected this methodology because it is face to face communication and can obtain direct respond. Interview methodology will be the structure interview. The interviewees for my survey will be the experience contractor or recycling company. Form the interview, interviewees can provide the right information, valuable opinion, and experience about the factor and implementation problem may affect the recycling potential in Malaysia 1.6 CONTENT OUTLINE Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2.1: Recycling and reuse concrete aggregate recycling method for aggregate, which use as concrete Standards and specifications of recycled concrete aggregate Chapter 2.2: The advantages or disadvantages of reuse the recycled material waste Cost, quality and properties Source and environment Chapter 2.3: The application of recycled concrete aggregate The use of recycled concrete material in construction industry Chapter 2.4: The implementation problem recycling concrete aggregate in Malaysia The status of implementation to recycling concrete aggregate The factor of implementation problem recycling concrete aggregate Chapter 5: Designing the case study and research methodology Chapter 6: Analysis and evaluating the case study evidence Chapter 7: Recommendation and conclusion

Contemporary Russian Thought :: Russian Culture Essays
Trends of Contemporary Russian Thought (1) ABSTRACT: This paper focuses on the most recent period in the development of Russian thought (1960s-1990s). Proceeding from the cyclical patterns of Russian intellectual history, I propose to name it 'the third philosophical awakening.' I define the main tendency of this period as 'the struggle of thought against ideocracy.' I then suggest a classification of main trends in Russian thought of this period: (1) Dialectical materialism in its evolution from late Stalinism to neo-communist mysticism; (2) Neorationalism and Structuralism; (3) Neo-Slavophilism, or the Philosophy of National Spirit; (4) Personalism and Liberalism; (5) Religious Philosophy and Mysticism, both Christian Orthodox and Non-Traditional; (6) Culturology or the Philosophy of Culture; (7) Conceptualism or the Philosophy of Postmodernity. "The Karamazovs are not scoundrels but philosophers, because all real Russian people are philosophers..." Dmitry Karamazov, in Fyodor Dostoevsky. The Brothers Karamazov It is a property of the Russian people to indulge in philosophy. ...The fate of the philosopher in Russia is painful and tragic. Nikolai Berdyaev. The Russian Idea The fact that one can annihilate a philosophy . ... or that one can prove that a philosophy annihilates itself is of little consequence. If it's really philosophy, then, like the phoenix, it will always rise again from its own ashes. Friedrich Schlegel. Athenaeum Fragments, trans. Peter Firchow, 103. The last period of the Soviet ideocracy, approximately from the early 1970s through the late 1980s, can be characterized as a period of "philosophical awakening," to use the felicitous expression of the theologian Georgy Florovsky (1893 - 1979). "Such awakening is usually preceded by a more or less complicated historical fate, the abundant and long historical experience and ordeal, which now becomes the object of interpretation and discussion. Philosophical life begins as a new mode or a new stage of national existence... One can feel in the generation of that epoch some irresistible attraction to philosophy, a philosophical passion and thirst, a kind of magical gravitation toward philosophical themes and issues." (2) Florovsky refers here to the first "philosophical awakening" of Russia in the span of years from 1830s to 1840s: roughly, the generation of Chaadaev, early Westernizers and Slavophiles, such as Belinsky, Herzen, Bakunin, Khomiakov, the brothers Aksakov, and the brothers Kireevsky. (3) Russia's second philosophical awakening occurred in the first two decades of the 20th century, following in the wake of the unsuccessful revolution of 1905 and disenchantment of the most refined part of intelligentsia with the low intellectual level of populism, Marxism and other socialist theories.

Buddha Essay -- essays research papers fc
Buddha The word Buddha means "enlightened one." It is used today as a title to the one who has given us more religious beliefs than almost any other human who lived in this world. However, he was not given this name at birth; he had to earn it for himself by undergoing long, hard hours of meditation and contemplation. Buddha has changed the lifestyles of many cultures with new, never-before asked questions that were explained by his search for salvation. He began an entirely new religion that dared to test the boundaries of reality and go beyond common knowledge to find the answers of the mysteries of life. India During the sixth century BC, India was a land of political and religious turmoil. It was an era of great brutality with the domination of Northwest India by Indo-Aryan invaders. Many people, influenced by the Aryan civilization, began to question the value of life and it's true meaning. Schools were opened because of this curiosity where teachers would discuss the significance of existence and the nature of man and held programs to reconstruct one's spiritual self. (Pardue, page 228) Background Near the town of Kapilavastivu, today known as Nepal, lived King Suddhodhana and Queen Maya of the indigenous tribe known as the Shakyas. (Encyclopedia Americana, page 687) Queen Maya soon became pregnant and had a dream shortly before she gave birth. In this dream a beautiful, white elephant with six tusks entered her room and touched her side. This dream was soon interpreted by the wisest Brahmin, or Priest of Brahmanism, that she was to give birth to a son that would, if he were to remain in the castle, become the wisest king in the world, but if he were ever to leave the castle he would then become the wisest prophet far into future generations. (Encyclopedia Americana, page 410) In around the year 563 BC, Siddhartha Gautama was born into a life of pure luxury. (Wangu, page 16) His father wanted to make sure that his son was well taken care of as he grew to prevent him from desiring to leave the palace. Suddhodhana, listening to the prophecy, kept Siddhartha away from the pain of reality so that he could follow in his father's footsteps in becoming a well respected leader. As Siddhartha grew, ... ... his teachings will be remembered for generations. He has sacrificed his total salvation so that mankind could be taught of the path to enlightenment. The Buddha has proven to be one of the wisest and giving men who touched the lives of so many millions of people. Buddhism will live on as a major impact on the cultures of the world and the Buddha will never be forgotten. "Everything that has been created is subject to decay and death. Everything is transitory. Work out your own salvation with diligence." -Buddha (Wangu, page 31) Bibliography "Buddha and Buddhism." Encyclopedia Americana. 1990. Cohen, John Lebold. Buddha. Mary Frank, 1969. Pardue, Peter A. Debate 2nd Speaker LGBT
Iââ¬â¢m the second speaker for the proposition team and our stand is transgender should be classified as the third gender. My first point is that transgender should be given a proper recognition in the society. Letââ¬â¢s be honest, thereââ¬â¢s a good chance that you have not heard of Transgender Day of Remembrance. How often do we actually think about the ââ¬Å"Tâ⬠in LGBT? Over the years, there have been far too many cases of hate crimes that have been motivated by an individualââ¬â¢s sexual preference. Often, what prompt these crimes are motivations of fear and ignorance. Human sexuality is extremely complicated ââ¬â how should one view the sexuality of a transgender person? If he or she are post-op, does that mean theyââ¬â¢re still technically transgender? Well, one would have to say that all crimes committed against transgender men and women are motivated by homophobia (negative feelings/attitudes against LGBT). But is this necessarily the right view to view this subject? The Transgender Day of Remembrance started in the late 90s, and it is a day set aside to remember those members of the trans community who have been killed, murdered in the previous years for simply being trans or being perceived to be trans. One such case, being Rita Hester who was 34 years old when she was found dead in her apartment in 1998. This case was tragic for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it achieved less national attention than the murder of Matthew Shepard, which happened five weeks earlier (a white male). There are still many more questions that are unanswered, but what is certain is the effect these kinds of crimes have had on the LGBT community and what the lack of attention and action means. In conclusion, my team is clearly right in saying transgender should be classified as the third gender because they should be given a proper recognition in the society.

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Life has always been filled with different challenges. Sometimes, these challenges were enough to change the way we deal with life in general. There were people who get disappointed and depressed, making their lives more miserable. And there were others, who despite of their hardships and challenges, manage to live them most of their lives striving to be the best person they can be.The novel, ââ¬Å"A Walk to Rememberâ⬠, tells the story of a seventeen year-old teenager, Landon Carter. He was one of the popular students, armed with charm and good looks, and adored by many. He lived his life by playing pranks on others, bullying them and taking people for granted. He was aimless, and was contented with the kind of life his parents could provide him with. Everything changed when he met Jamie Sullivan.Jamie was the daughter of a Baptist minister in Beaufort. She was the complete opposite of Landon. People often had a notion that Jamie was weird, for she was always quiet , holding a B ible wherever she went. Her father was strict, and never allowed her to mingle much with the people around her. Unknown to many, Jamie had cancer. The time came when Jamie and Landon had to work together in the annual Christmas play written by Jamie's father, Hegbert Sullivan. At first, both were uncomfortable working together, primarily because they had different views in life. Jamie's life was simple, and filled with dreams she wished she could accomplish someday. Landon, on the other hand, was just contented with the kind of life that he had, and aimless in life. The two were always together, making them learn more about life. Their differences have somehow bridged the gap that was placed long before they had the chance to exchange ideas. Soon after, they were in love.Landon was left in awe upon learning that Jamie was dying of Leukemia. He was desolated at first, but faced the life changing trial by fulfilling Jamie's wish list. He made Jamie feel loved and special, making her hap py all the time.In the end, Landon and Jamie were married in the church where Jamie's deceased mother was married. Jamie was initially on a wheel chair, for she was very weak. She stood up and walked towards the altar to meet Landon, and his father Hegbert, who was to officiate the wedding. The story of the novel was astounding. It made viewers feel that regardless of life's challenges, one can still find that blissful ending. The novel also showed us that regardless of our statures in life, love will prevail. In Landon and Jamie's case, both were from the opposite ends of the social strata.Landon was part of the popular kids, who played pranks on others for fun, aimless, and cared less for their education. Jamie, on the other hand,à was branded to be one of those who cared much for her academics, career driven, and timid towards others.I particular admire the part wherein Jamie told Landon not to fall in love with her. It was an awkward statement to be given by Jamie, knowing her status in school. Landon, on the other hand, took it effortlessly, knowing that he would not fall in love with a girl like Jamie. He was surprised in the end, knowing that he had done the things that he did not normally do in life. Jamie was an influential force in Landon's sudden maturity. The story itself had a typical story set for a novel-â⬠the boy meets girl then falls in love, despising the belief of othersâ⬠type. But the novel goes further than that.à With the simple plot, the author was able to incorporate to the novel the magic and lessons in life that may be learned by teenagers. He was able to take into consideration the differences in perceptions, and how people, from all walks of life can come together for one purpose. In this case, those who used to despise Jamie helped give her the best summer she can have in her lifetime. They made her feel that regardless of her illness, she can still fulfill her dreams. At the same time, she was able to live her life l ike a normal teenager, not being given the special treatment given to dying patients.

A Commentary on William Wordsworthââ¬â¢s Poems
There are many strategies in which a writer can convey his message to his readers. One is allusion, a literary device that lets the readers have a mental image of what the writer is trying to express in his article. The dictionary defines it as an ââ¬Å"indirect reference or citationâ⬠to a person, place or something that is presumed to be known already by the reader. Others classify it as an indirect mention of something that the writer may intentionally or unintentionally do so. It is up to the reader to see and grasp the necessary connection.Wordsworthââ¬â¢s breathtaking ranges in poetry encompasses the entire arc of his career from writing pieces of poetry and lingering passionate meditations on demands set forth by the contemporary society for purposes which indulges the art of love, heroism, nature and a whole sense of unpredictable somber and angry poems which stages the flames of war and a whole lot more of uprising circumstances. His so-called nature pieces gave not only a slight impact on readers, but it made people internalize each and every line of his poems such as in Tintern Abbey in the specific lines.ââ¬Å"Do I behold these steep and lofty cliffs, that on a wild secluded scene impress, thoughts of more deep seclusion; and connect, the landscape with the quiet of the skyâ⬠(Wordsworth, Owen and Wordsworth). It was believed that the purpose of his works is to send subliminal messages to the British society of his time. He is a man armed with romanticism which is considered moribund in modern literature. His skill of captivating hearts of readers with his ability to revive legends by placing it into lyrics gave him a towering height of success and respect which is up to date appreciated by literature fanatics.Unlike E. S. Yeats who received mostly admiration on his works, William Wordsworth on the other hand had a lot of criticisms regarding his works especially on The Prelude. Some said his works were ââ¬Å"not being poetry at allà ¢â¬ and that they were just replica of other authorsââ¬â¢ creations. Nevertheless, these were not barriers for Wordsworth to be recognized as one of the most influential British poets in the 18th Century (Colville).Among his greatest works were published after his death in 1850 which gave him a breakthrough in the limelight and a tank of deliberate criticisms at that. Given the fact that his works were often questioned, he remained steadfast upon his works and continued writing epics, tragedies, culture and religion. His enthusiasm on nature which triggered the rationality of the reading public were ironically given ample respect. He was described as a writer dancing shallow waters, and enables one to judge his works either positively or negatively. It was between: love him, or hate him.William Wordsworth in his works in Lyrical Ballads which includes the ââ¬Å"Tables Turnedâ⬠and Tintern Abbeyâ⬠also says that it will make everything about him right again, put his life back into perspective especially those about his friend, Samuel Taylor Coleridge as reflected on the lines of the poem, The Tables Turned which reads, ââ¬Å"May teach you more of man, of moral evil and of good, than all the sages canâ⬠(Wordsworth, Owen and Wordsworth). Again, he talked about the Coleridge and mentioned the woman he loves and how she is the object of his desires, and also, pain. But then, in addition to feeling let down, Wordsworth also implies that he is not sure about how his friend does things in the poem as reflected by the lines, ââ¬Å"Sweet is the lore which Nature brings; our meddling intellect, mis-shapes the beauteous forms of things:ââ¬âwe murder to dissectâ⬠. The essence of the British romantic period is its ability on making readers read and at the same time comprehends what they are reading. This literary device which is used in prose and poetry help in visualizing a mental picture by playing with words alluded. The fragile fact in th e usage of such is the level of expectation evoked by the allusion. The style is like ââ¬Å"counting chickens with eggsâ⬠. In general, the utilization of allusions by a novelist shows an anticipation that the bookworm is proverbial with the allusion made, otherwise the effect is nowhere to be found in the tentacles of the purpose. Markets and Society - Essay Example But who is Smith? Adam Smith contributes to the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century. He was born in born in 1723 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland and later enjoyed scholarship at the University of Glasgow (Smith, 1994). At 14, he continued his studies at Balliol College at Oxford (Smith, 1994). He became a professor at the University of Glasgow teaching logic course in 1751 and extolled later as the chair of moral philosophy in 1752 (Smith, 1994). Some of Smithââ¬â¢s academic studies were inked in his work of Theory of Moral Sentiments publicized in 1759 (Smith, 1994). In 1764, Smith decided to leave the academe and tutor the Duke of Buccleuch. Only after he retired whence he started writing the book on Wealth of Nations. Smith remained single all his life and died in Edinburgh in 1790 (Henderson, 2007). Although Smith was considered as economist by heart, he was primarily a philosopher and his teachings are inspired by philosophy. Since the theory is philosophically explicated , the contemporary economic disciplined remained applicable up to these days (Smith, 1994). Smith is considered by economists worldwide as the ââ¬Å"father of economicsâ⬠. He wrote the most integrated and influential book ââ¬Å"An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nationsâ⬠in 1776 (Smith, 1994). ... 1).â⬠Smith was the first author who viewed the significance of the specialization and division of labor as primary source of productivity and the principle of ââ¬Å"invisible handâ⬠to illustrate the potential tendency of self-interest-motivated individuals to be directed to undertake works and collaborative activities in accordance to free market system and based on legislated economic and market policies (Smith, 1994; Henderson, 2007). Division of Labor & Contemporary Implications The increase of population, peoplesââ¬â¢ migration, and increasing needs of urbanization found division of labor as mechanism to address problems on scarcity of goods and needs for trading. With labor being categorized based on their expertise and skills, companies created branches or divisions to meet its peculiar production needs with the use of technology. For instance, in the production of microSD chips, the ten persons are expected to produce at least a specific number per day. Hence, the division of labor remained significant up to these days because companies are still bound by targeted results with the highest level of industry as desired consequence. This is also true to agro-industrial company. For example, in a pineapple company, the farm-workers are divided into managers, ploughman, harrower, sower, reaper or harvester, pealer, cutter, canning, and labeling. The work forcers will also have that in-charge for marketing, distribution, and accountants. All of these functions are technologically assisted to keep pace with the improvement of trading relations; supply-demand factors; and by the drive for profit. Modern economists call this systematization of labor forces as optimization of performance management. In this theory, workers are

ETHICS, LAW AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT - Essay Example Although, the augmenting complexity of business, because of the extensive transformations and developments of the technologies and globalization offers an apparent indication that now we have in an extremely complex business environment and is turning out to be more complex due to novel ethical, cultural, social and legal transformations (Maniam & Teetz, 2009). Business and corporate ââ¬Å"Ethicsâ⬠is an everyday incidence in the business world as well as in someoneââ¬â¢s life. Business ethics is the similar to a normal ethics. These both kinds of ethical practices offer us to identify, what is wrong or right, or else we are in process of discovering what is wrong or right in the environment in which one is concerned. An ethical matter can not have a tangible response; therefore a persons preference can rely on that persons state of affairs. This can take place for the reason that "business and corporate ethics is a large and murky area as well as the place of work is full o f ethical problems and issues. As a result, workers reaction to force to perform can resort to unprincipled decisions so as to convene the objectives they experience are difficult. This can take place at some level of administration (Tutor2u, 2009). This report presents the detailed analysis of the Wal-Mart business and its associated ethical factors. The Wal-Mart is acknowledged as the king of marketplace because of its huge size. It has driven lesser retailers out of commerce; forced companies to be well-organized, frequently leading these suppliers to move industrial jobs overseas; and changed the method that up till now large and established productions do business. Wal-Mart has existence or death decisions over all the customer supplies industries that survive in the US, for the reason that it is the number-one supplier-retailer of the majority of our customer goods, not still toys, clothes, shoes but home applications, electronic goods,

Linux vs HP-UNIX Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Linux vs HP-UNIX - Essay Example "A single class of process is a feasible approach in Plan 9 because the kernel has an efficient system call interface and cheap process creation and scheduling." (Pike et al) Bell Labs: The kernel support for parallel programming in Plan 9 is a few hundred lines of portable code; a handful of simple primitives enable the problems to be handled cleanly at user level. Although the primitives work fine from C, they are particularly expressive from within Alef. The creation and management of slave I/O processes can be written in a few lines of Alef, providing the foundation for a consistent means of multiplexing data flows between arbitrary processes. (Pike et al) Bell Labs UNIX is a "multi-tasking OS, which means that there may be many programs and many programs and people using the same machine at the same time, by using the concept of a virtual machine". (Seth Noble, 2005) Linux's bottom half handlers were invented so that device drivers and other parts of the Linux kernel could queue work to be done later on. Figure 11.1 shows the kernel data structures associated with bottom half handling. Bottom Half Handling Figure 11.1: Bottom Half Handling Data Structures There can be up to 32 different bottom half handlers; bh_base is a vector of pointers to each of the kernel's bottom half handling routines. bh_active and bh_mask have their bits set according to what handlers have been installed and are active. If bit N of bh_mask is set then the Nth element of bh_base contains the address of a bottom half routine. If bit N of bh_active is set then the N'th bottom half handler routine should be called as soon as the scheduler deems reasonable. These indices are statically defined; the timer bottom half handler is the highest priority (index 0), the console bottom half handler is next in priority (index 1) and so on. Typically the bottom half handling routines have lists of tasks associated with them. For example, the immediate bottom half handler works its way through the immediate tasks queue (tq_immediate) which contains tasks that need to be performed immediately. (Rusling, David 1999) Shell The shell application inside the UNIX Plan9 system are set up for standard input and output connection to the editable text of the window with such features as its own private bitmap and multiplexed access to the keyboard, mouse and other graphical resources. The UNIX shell is commonly defined as the command line which provides the user interface for the actual operating system. By executing input commands, the shell will then execute those exact inputs. There are different shells that are available for Linux and is very much the same as UNIX in its description of how the shell application works. The following shells are available for Linux: Shell Name Developed by Where Remark BASH ( Bourne-Again SHell ) Brian Fox and Chet Ramey Free Software Foundation Most common shell in Linux.
